Mumbai : Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has claimed that Shiv Sena leader Milind Narvekar once phoned him to say that Uddhav Thackeray was upset about not getting the Mumbai mayor’s post.
Speaking at the BJP’s ‘Vijay Sankalp’ rally in Mumbai, Fadnavis recalled that during an earlier municipal election, the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance had fallen short of a majority for the mayoral position. Despite this, Narvekar allegedly requested that the post be given to Shiv Sena as Thackeray was “distressed and angry.”
Fadnavis said the BJP eventually decided to concede not just the Mayor’s post but also the Deputy Mayor and Standing Committee Chairmanship to Shiv Sena, while ensuring that the BJP would still monitor and hold them accountable.
He further remarked that the compromise felt like a painful sacrifice, comparing it to the sentiment of a popular song about betrayal by a close friend.
