Mumbai : Maharashtra Cabinet Minister and Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban District, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, on Sunday inaugurated a newly built pigeon house at Teen Murti Podanpur inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
The project, supported by Adinath Digambar Jain Mandir, saw the presence of several prominent members of the Digambar Jain community.
Highlighting the need to balance animal welfare with public health, Lodha said, “It is essential to ensure pigeons receive food and water, but at the same time, we must protect citizens from health risks. The middle path is to set up pigeon houses in forested areas, away from human settlements.”
The initiative provides a safe zone for pigeons within the natural environment of the park, reducing risks in crowded urban areas. It is expected to become a model for future projects, enabling citizens to show compassion for birds while keeping public spaces clean and safe.
