Mumbai : The Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested two members of an interstate gang involved in stealing valuables from sleeping passengers on long-distance trains. The accused have been identified as Waqar Khan from Ghazipur and Jugal Vishwakarma from Kanpur.
With their arrest, police have solved 16 pending theft cases across Central Railway and recovered stolen property worth ₹22 lakh.
According to officials, the gang targeted passengers by discreetly opening bags and removing valuables without disturbing them. The gang leader, Waqar Khan, frequently changed accomplices during operations, making it difficult for investigators to track the entire network.
The gang operated mainly on Central Railway routes under the jurisdiction of Kalyan, Thane, Karjat, and Dombivli GRP stations. While two members are in custody, four others remain absconding, and efforts are on to nab them.
