Ajit Pawar Responds to Controversy Over Solapur Officer Incident

Mumbai : Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has addressed the controversy following a viral video showing him instructing a woman IPS officer to halt an operation against illegal soil excavation in Solapur’s Kurdu village.

In a statement on social media platform X, Pawar clarified that his intent was not to interfere with law enforcement but to ensure the situation remained calm and did not escalate. He emphasized his respect for the police, including women officers, and reaffirmed his commitment to transparent governance and strict action against illegal activities.

The incident occurred when Sub-Divisional Police Officer Anjana Krishna was overseeing an operation against illegal ‘murrum’ excavation. A local NCP worker connected Krishna to Pawar, who reportedly instructed her to stop the operation. Krishna requested official communication, prompting a subsequent video call where Pawar reiterated his instructions.

The exchange has ignited political debate. Supporters argue Pawar aimed to maintain order, while critics see it as undue political interference. The NCP defended Pawar, stating his remarks were misinterpreted and intended to pacify the situation.

The controversy underscores continuing concerns about political influence over administrative decisions and the autonomy of law enforcement agencies.
