Mumbai Maratha Morcha: 10 Lakh Bhakris Collected, Excess Food Distributed to Needy

Navi Mumbai: The Maratha protest in Mumbai witnessed an overwhelming show of community support as villagers across Maharashtra dispatched food supplies, leading to the collection of nearly 10 lakh bhakris (traditional bread) in just three days.

Truckloads of bhakri, chutney, thecha, vegetables, and water bottles poured into Navi Mumbai and were stored at the CIDCO Exhibition Centre in Vashi. The response was so massive that multiple storage facilities had to be arranged.

The campaign began after hotels shut down on the first day of the agitation, prompting villages to launch the “One Loaf for the Protesters” initiative. Soon, essentials were arriving from every corner of the state.

However, as the agitation concluded on Tuesday, community leaders requested that further supplies be halted due to excess stock. To avoid wastage, leftover bhakris, chutneys, pickles, curds, and water bottles were distributed late into the night to underprivileged patients and children in orphanages across Mumbai.

The gesture highlighted the Maratha community’s spirit of solidarity and generosity, ensuring that surplus aid reached those in real need.
