Mumbai : MLA Rais Shaikh has urged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to resolve the issue of waterlogging in several Muslim cemeteries across the city during the monsoon season.
In a letter to the Municipal Commissioner, Shaikh highlighted that rainwater accumulation in burial grounds is creating severe inconvenience for mourners and grave diggers, making it difficult to conduct funeral rituals on time.
He specifically pointed out the problem at Narialwadi Cemetery (Mazgaon), Bada Kabrastan (Marine Lines), Deonar Cemetery (Govandi), and Rafi Nagar Cemetery (Govandi).
Shaikh demanded that the BMC put in place a permanent drainage and pumping system, along with regular cleanliness measures, to prevent recurring waterlogging in these cemeteries.
