Mumbai: In a major organisational reshuffle ahead of the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday announced senior legislator Ameet Satam as the new president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Mumbai unit.
Satam, 49, a three-term MLA from Andheri West and former corporator, is known for his vocal stance on civic issues and his role in the Gokhale bridge reconstruction. His appointment comes days after the civic body submitted its ward formation proposal, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral contest.
Former Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar congratulated Satam, calling him a dedicated leader connected to both Konkan roots and Mumbai’s pulse, while also thanking party colleagues and citizens for their support during his nine-year tenure.
Praising Shelar’s leadership, CM Fadnavis credited him with strengthening BJP in Mumbai during the 2017 civic polls. On Satam’s elevation, he described him as a “studious, aggressive and imaginative” leader, expressing confidence that he will drive the party towards victory in the city under the Mahayuti alliance.
