Thane : The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Friday demanded that fare meters be made mandatory in all ambulances across the state to prevent overcharging of patients’ families.
The party emphasized that the fare structure should be based on the type of ambulance—simple, air-conditioned, or cardiac. According to MNS, several residents of Thane have raised complaints about being charged exorbitant rates during medical emergencies.
MNS Thane District Secretary Nainesh Patankar took up the issue with the authorities, following which Deputy Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Rohit Katkar assured that necessary steps would be taken.
The party said installing meters would not only stop exploitation of patients’ relatives but also ensure transparency and fairness in emergency medical transport services across Maharashtra.
