Mumbai : This afternoon residents and passersby in Thane’s Kisan Nagar area witnessed a dramatic incident when a section of the first-floor gallery of a four-storey residential building suddenly collapsed. The structure had previously been declared dangerous by local authorities. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

According to updates, following the collapse, approximately 70 residents living in the building were evacuated and temporarily relocated to a nearby municipal school for safety measures. The building is estimated to be around 40 years old, and authorities quickly dispatched teams from the disaster management cell and fire services to the scene.

Additional Context

The building in question had already been classified as “dangerous” under municipal safety norms, which typically mandates prompt structural assessment and remedial action.

This incident is not isolated. A similar event occurred earlier in Thane, when a portion of the third-floor roof and stair gallery collapsed in the Nandadeep building (also in Kisan Nagar) during the early hours of May 27, 2025. No injuries occurred in that incident either, but 17 families were evacuated as a precaution
