Mumbai : In a much-anticipated announcement, Maharashtra Transport Minister and newly appointed MSRTC Chairman, Pratap Sarnaik, directed that the salaries of ST (State Transport) employees be disbursed with the same promptness and regularity as state government workers, ahead of the Ganeshotsav festival.
Sarnaik revealed that due to severe cash flow issues, MSRTC staff received only 56% of their March salary, sparking frustration across the workforce. Following his discussions with the state finance secretary, the government approved the immediate release of ₹120 crore, covering the remaining 44% of salaries .
The minister pledged that from now on, employees’ wages would be credited by the 7th of every month, bringing schedule alignment with state government disbursements .
With the funds now allocated, all dues for March have been settled, and full salaries are expected to reach employees’ accounts by April 15 .
This move has been hailed as a significant relief for nearly 87,000 MSRTC employees, restoring financial confidence just in time for the festive season.
