Teen Electrocuted in Bhandup After Touching Live Wire; Short Circuit Triggers Fire Near King’s Circle

Mumbai : Heavy rains in the city have once again exposed the dangers of waterlogging and electrical hazards.

In a tragic incident on Tuesday, a 17-year-old boy, identified as Deepak Pille, lost his life after accidentally coming into contact with a live high-tension wire in Bhandup’s Pannalal Compound area. Deepak, who was returning home along LBS Road, failed to hear residents’ warnings due to wearing headphones. Eyewitnesses said despite repeated shouts, he could not hear them and collapsed after touching the wire submerged in water.

Residents revealed that the wire had been posing a risk for several days and their earlier warnings had saved others from harm. A video circulating online shows the boy walking on a waterlogged road moments before the fatal electrocution.

In a separate incident on Sunday, a short circuit in a BEST meter box outside Amrit Hotel near King’s Circle Station triggered a fire. Thick smoke and flames caused panic among locals before the fire brigade and Sion Police rushed to the spot. BEST officials are assessing the damage.

Authorities have highlighted that severe waterlogging—often rising up to 4–5 feet in the King’s Circle area—creates a high risk of short circuits, electrocution, and fire outbreaks during monsoon rains.
