Mumbai : The Women and Child Development Department has ordered disciplinary action against government officials and employees who allegedly availed benefits under the ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin’ scheme despite being ineligible.

According to a recently issued letter, a list of 1,183 employees working in district councils (Zilla Parishads) has surfaced, showing that they knowingly took advantage of the scheme in violation of the eligibility criteria.

Taking serious note of the matter, the department has instructed all concerned Zilla Parishads to initiate immediate disciplinary action under the Maharashtra Civil Services Rules. The responsibility for this action lies with the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the respective councils, who serve as the appointing and disciplinary authorities.

The department has also directed that action-taken reports be submitted to the Women and Child Development Department, with a copy sent to the Rural Development Department.

Officials stated that this move is intended to send a strong message against the misuse of welfare schemes, ensuring that benefits reach only the genuinely deserving beneficiaries.
