Monorail Stuck, Fire Brigade Rescues Passengers; CM Fadnavis Reviews Flood Situation

Mumbai : Heavy rains brought Mumbai’s Monorail service to a halt on Tuesday evening when a train got stuck between Mysore Colony and Bhakti Park stations due to a “minor power supply issue.” Passengers were rescued by the fire brigade using cranes and snorkel vehicles after officials cut open the window glass.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured that passenger safety was the top priority and ordered an inquiry into the incident. He also warned that the next 48 hours were “crucial” for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts, all under a red alert.

Mumbai continues to reel under incessant rainfall that has disrupted local train services, diverted flights, and caused waterlogging across the city. At least six people have died and hundreds have been displaced, while tracks on the Central Railway were submerged under up to 17 inches of water.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the heavy downpour is linked to a depression over Odisha and Chhattisgarh, coupled with monsoon systems along the Arabian Sea coast, fuelling strong rainfall over Maharashtra.
