Mumbai : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today inaugurated the ‘Mumbai Dabbawala International Experience Centre’, a state-of-the-art facility showcasing the 135-year-old legacy, heritage, and work methods of Mumbai’s world-famous dabbawalas.

The centre, inspired by the unique service founded by Mahadev Bachcha in 1890, uses advanced virtual reality technology to give visitors an immersive experience of a dabbawala’s day—from morning prayers and cycling with tiffin boxes to navigating busy streets and ensuring precise meal deliveries.

Speaking at the event, CM Devendra Fadnavis lauded the dabbawala tradition, calling it “a management marvel surpassing the world’s best technology,” and noted its recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records and global research studies. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the lives of dabbawalas, announcing a housing scheme under which they can avail fully furnished 500 sq. ft. homes for ₹25.5 lakh, along with infrastructure directly connected to railway stations.

CM Devendra Fadnavis also expressed his vision to take the dabbawalas’ work to the global stage through new initiatives.

The event was attended by Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar, MLC Shrikant Bharatiya, MLA Yogesh Sagar, MLA Captain R. Tamil Selvan, and other dignitaries.
