Mumbai:-  Mumbai BJP Mahila Morcha president Sheetal Gambhir Desai has urged the Maharashtra government to act swiftly on the Supreme Court’s directive to set up shelter homes for stray dogs, citing the growing menace across the state.

Speaking to the media, Desai said that in Mumbai and other major cities, stray dogs have become a serious nuisance, with frequent attacks leaving many injured. “Thousands of people are forced to take rabies injections due to dog bites. The state must immediately follow the Supreme Court’s decision and begin relocating stray dogs to shelter homes,” she asserted.

Desai highlighted that in Mumbai’s slum areas and suburbs, stray dogs have easy access to food from waste dumps, fueling their population growth. She added that many dog bite incidents go unreported due to fear of police procedures or lack of awareness, often resulting in severe health issues.

She stressed that citizens’ safety must be the priority, and the shelter home plan should be implemented without delay.
