Election Commission Removes 334 Inactive Political Parties from Register

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has delisted 334 Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs) as part of its ongoing electoral reforms to ensure greater transparency and accountability in the political process.

According to officials, these parties were removed for failing to comply with registration rules, remaining inactive for long periods, or not fulfilling statutory obligations under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. As a result, they will no longer enjoy benefits such as tax exemptions or exclusive rights to election symbols.

In Jharkhand, five parties — Bharat Vikas Morcha, Bhartiya Janmukti Party, Manav Mukti Party, Navjawan Sangharsh Morcha, and Rashtriya Mazdoor Kisan Prajatantrik Party — lost their registration, while Jansadharan Party and Jharkhand Vikas Dal retained their status after responding to ECI notices.

The ECI said the move is part of a broader cleanup drive aimed at preventing misuse of the registration process and maintaining the integrity of the electoral system.
