Congress Protests Delay in Mulund Foot Overbridge Construction

Mumbai : Congress workers and local residents staged a protest over the prolonged delay in reconstructing the crucial foot overbridge (FOB) connecting Mulund East and West. The original bridge was demolished over a year ago, and despite promises from authorities, construction remains incomplete.

The footbridge, which served as the only free pedestrian link between both sides of the station, has left thousands of daily commuters struggling. Many are forced to take long detours or buy platform tickets just to cross the railway tracks.

Led by Congress leader Sagar Devre, protesters accused the railway authorities of neglect and demanded immediate action. “The work is barely halfway done, even after repeated deadlines. If this continues, we’ll intensify our agitation,” Devre said.

Officials claim the delays are due to changes in design and ongoing infrastructure projects under the MUTP‑3A railway upgrade plan. However, commuters argue the bridge should have been completed before the demolition of the old one.

With public frustration growing, Congress has warned of further protests if the bridge is not completed soon.
