Mumbai : ZEE5 to Stream Tehran During Independence Week
Actor John Abraham’s much-awaited spy thriller Tehran is finally set to release on ZEE5 on August 14, 2025, after facing multiple delays since its original 2023 schedule. The release aligns with India’s Independence Day celebrations, adding patriotic flavour to the OTT line-up.

Plot Based on True Events

Directed by Arun Gopalan, Tehran is a geopolitical thriller inspired by real incidents, including the 2012 Israeli embassy car blast in New Delhi. John Abraham plays ACP Rajeev Kumar, who finds himself in the middle of a dangerous international mission involving India, Iran, and Israel.

Star Cast

The film stars John Abraham in the lead role, alongside Manushi Chhillar, Neeru Bajwa, and Madhurima Tuli. Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, the movie blends action, suspense, and politics.

Why No Theatrical Release?

Originally intended for theatres, Tehran will now release directly on OTT. John Abraham revealed that cinema halls backed out due to the film’s politically sensitive content. Though disappointed, he expressed gratitude to ZEE5 for supporting the project.

Trailer Reaction

The trailer, released on August 1, gives a glimpse of a high-stakes cross-border operation filled with action and tension. While fans praised the intensity, many wished to see it on the big screen.
