Thane : Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde flagged off the ‘Young India Minithon 2025’ at Vrindavan in Thane, organized by the Young India Athletes Foundation. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the city’s youth, with over 2,000 runners taking part.
Thane, known for its rich sporting culture, has produced several exceptional athletes over the years. The city’s first marathon was initiated by the late Satish Pradhan and later came to be known as the Thane Mayor Varsha Marathon. Many of the original team members from that time were seen at today’s event.
Speaking on the occasion, Eknath Shinde emphasized Thane’s legacy in sports and urged citizens to participate in the upcoming Thane Mayor Varsha Marathon scheduled for August 10.
Present at the event were Datta Chavan, President of Young India Athletes, Secretary Swapnil Chavan, senior Shiv Sena leader Anita Birje, divisional head Amit Jaiswal, and other Shiv Sena officials and workers.
