Mumbai: A 63-year-old woman lost her life and a 39-year-old man was injured after a speeding truck rammed into their scooter near Kirti College on Veer Savarkar Marg in Dadar on Thursday morning.

The victims, Vanita Vijay Kanekar and Ajit Yadav — both residents of Bandra (West) — were travelling from Bandra to Prabhadevi on a two-wheeler (MH08BF2601). Kanekar worked as a housemaid at a doctor’s residence in Prabhadevi.

Around 10:40 to 11:00 am, as the scooter approached Gulmohar Wadi near Kirti College, a truck (MH03DV4925) allegedly driven recklessly by 55-year-old Ramkumar Yadav struck the vehicle from behind.

The impact left Ajit Yadav with serious injuries to his right leg, while Vanita Kanekar suffered critical pelvic injuries and died on the spot.

Shockingly, the truck driver fled the scene without offering any assistance. He was later tracked down and arrested by Dadar Police.

An FIR has been registered under Sections 106(1), 281, and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 134(b) and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Police are now investigating the case further to verify the truck’s fitness and the validity of the driver’s license.
