Tension flared in Yavat area of Daund taluka in Pune district after an objectionable post circulated on WhatsApp led to clashes between two communities. The situation escalated into violent stone-pelting on Tuesday night, prompting heavy police deployment.
As both groups confronted each other, the police intervened to control the unrest and carried out a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. The situation was brought under control after the deployment of additional police force. Authorities have appealed for peace and assured strict action against those responsible for inciting violence.
