Mumbai: In a move to ease traffic congestion and clear city roads, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a dedicated helpline for citizens to report abandoned or scrap vehicles across Mumbai. Residents can now report such vehicles via three mobile numbers: 8828896903 (city division), 7505123456 (eastern suburbs), and 9819543092 (western suburbs). Complaints can also be submitted through the BMC website www.mcgm.gov.in or by calling the civic helpline 1916.

Once a complaint is received, BMC will issue a notice under Section 314 of the MMC Act, 1888. Vehicle owners will have 72 hours to remove their vehicle. Failing to do so will result in the vehicle being towed to a designated contractor yard. If unclaimed within 30 days, the vehicle will be disposed of, and no claims will be entertained thereafter.

The initiative aims to streamline the removal process of derelict vehicles, thereby improving road conditions for both motorists and pedestrians. BMC has urged owners to promptly pay fines and recover their vehicles if towed.
