Mumbai : Kharghar A proposal to enforce a permanent liquor ban in Kharghar has taken a formal step forward, following a crucial meeting between local leaders and the district administration.
MLA Prashant Thakur, along with members of the Kharghar Struggle Committee and political party representatives, met with District Collector Kishan Jawale on Monday to discuss the administrative steps required for initiating a ban.
As per the Collector, if 25% of registered voters from the three wards of Kharghar submit formal applications in favor of the ban, the voting process can begin. The election will be overseen by the Collector’s office and will use the existing Assembly election electoral rolls.
Officials also explained the unique “Upright Bottle – Sideways Bottle” method that will be used for voting. The excise department has been instructed to fully cooperate with the Kharghar Struggle Committee to facilitate the process.
The issue was previously raised by the MLA during the monsoon session of the state legislature. Monday’s meeting was also attended by Zilla Parishad CEO Neha Bhosale and State Excise officials.
