Maharashtra Cancels 30 % Fare Hike on Single Group Bus Reservations for Ganeshotsav 2025

Mumbai : Maharashtra’s transport authorities have rescinded a planned 30 % fare increase on single-group bookings of special buses running to the Konkan region during Ganeshotsav 2025. The decision benefits individuals and families planning to travel independently, who would otherwise have shouldered higher per-seat charges compared to group reservations.

Originally, single-group reservations were to be subject to premium fares, while standard group bookings retained original pricing. However, following widespread public feedback, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has reversed the fare hike ahead of the group’s booking window, which opens on July 22. The special fleet of 5,000 extra buses is scheduled to operate from August 23 to September 7, serving routes from Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and nearby divisions to locations across Konkan .

With this roll-back, all passengers making single-group reservations will pay the same fare as larger parties, and will additionally continue to receive concessions—100 % fare waiver for senior citizens and 50 % discount for Amrut senior citizens and women—underlining MSRTC’s inclusive policy for festival travel .

The move ensures a fairer and more accessible travel option for solo travelers and small families heading to celebrate Ganeshotsav in their native villages this year.
