Mumbai:-As the city prepares for Ganeshotsav 2025, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced several key initiatives to ensure smooth, sustainable, and safe celebrations across Mumbai.
Online Permission System
Starting August 6, all public Ganesh Mandals can apply for permissions through a single-window online system. This system will streamline approvals from the BMC, Mumbai Police, and Traffic Department.
For mandals that have followed rules consistently for the last 10 years, the BMC will issue 5-year permits, making it easier for them to host the festival. These permits can be renewed each year with a self-declaration form and a nominal ₹100 fee.
Eco-Friendly Idol Promotion
To promote environmental responsibility, BMC has distributed 858 tonnes of Shadu clay and natural paints to 477 idol makers free of cost. The civic body is encouraging the use of eco-friendly idols and has set up artificial immersion tanks to reduce pollution in natural water bodies.
A list of approved biodegradable colors and dyes has also been provided to idol makers to discourage the use of Plaster of Paris (PoP).
Public Awareness and Tech Integration
Every pandal will now feature a QR code, which will help devotees locate the nearest artificial immersion site.
BMC has partnered with online platforms like Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, and Blinkit to offer eco-idol making kits delivered directly to homes.
Safety & Regulation Measures
The civic body will strictly enforce rules regarding idol height, noise levels, and overall safety.
Preparations for fire services, ambulances, sanitation, tree trimming, and road repairs are also underway to ensure the festival proceeds without incident.
This year, the BMC is aiming for a green, tech-enabled, and disciplined Ganeshotsav, combining tradition with sustainability and digital efficiency.
