Mumbai : Over the past four and a half years, more than 20,000 tourists have visited the historic Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters, one of Mumbai’s most iconic heritage structures. The guided heritage tours, launched in January 2021, are conducted every weekend and have become a popular attraction for both locals and international visitors.

Organized by the BMC in collaboration with the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and Khaki Tours Pvt. Ltd., these walks offer an in-depth look at the stunning architecture and rich history of the 132-year-old building.

The BMC building, located opposite the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, was designed by British architect F.W. Stevens and inaugurated in 1893. It showcases a unique blend of Venetian Gothic and Indo-Saracenic architectural styles. The majestic structure stands as a symbol of Mumbai’s civic legacy and colonial-era grandeur.

Tours are held every Saturday and Sunday, and tickets are priced at ₹350, available through BookMyShow. The initiative was launched to increase public awareness of Mumbai’s civic history and promote heritage tourism.

On Sunday, July 20, 2025, the program reached a milestone as the 20,000th visitor joined the tour, highlighting the growing interest in Mumbai’s historical landmarks.

These heritage walks have not only brought attention to the BMC’s architectural brilliance but have also fostered civic pride among Mumbaikars.
