Mumbai: In a major announcement for suburban commuters, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has confirmed that Mumbai’s local trains will soon be equipped with air-conditioned (AC) coaches featuring automatic doors. Notably, this upgrade will be implemented without any increase in ticket fares.
Speaking at a press conference, Fadnavis emphasized the government’s commitment to improving commuter comfort and safety without burdening the public financially. The move is aimed at modernizing the city’s lifeline—the Mumbai suburban railway—while ensuring accessibility for all.
The initiative will be rolled out in a phased manner, with the Railways and state government working closely to expedite the project.
