NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad Booked for Obstructing Police Vehicle Amid Clash at Maharashtra Assembly

Mumbai : A political clash outside the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan escalated on Thursday evening, leading to a police complaint against NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MLA Jitendra Awhad. The altercation involved supporters of Awhad and BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar, reportedly following a heated exchange between the two legislators.
According to ANI, a case has been registered at Mumbai’s Marine Drive Police Station against Awhad for allegedly obstructing a police vehicle and hindering public servants during the incident. The confrontation was triggered when Padalkar’s vehicle allegedly hit Awhad, sparking chaos between their supporters.
Both MLAs raised the issue in the Assembly, voicing concerns over the behavior of their respective supporters. Speaker Rahul Narwekar condemned the incident and mentioned that the individuals involved, who were detained by Vidhan Bhavan security, may face breach of privilege action.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his disappointment and called for a detailed investigation. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray slammed the government for its handling of the situation. Awhad also claimed to have received death threats amid the tension.
The incident has raised serious concerns about decorum and security within the premises of the Maharashtra legislature.
