Mumbai : In a significant move aimed at reforming the state’s education sector, the Maharashtra Government will soon introduce legislation to dismantle the nexus between colleges and private coaching classes, School Education Minister Dada Bhuse announced in the legislative assembly on Wednesday.
The proposed law will focus on ensuring that colleges take full academic responsibility instead of relying on external coaching centres. “This legislation will fix accountability and ensure that educational institutions function independently,” said Bhuse, responding to a query raised by NCP MLA Hiraman Khoskar.
Bhuse further stated that the government also plans to amend existing rules to stop schools from collecting excessive fees under non-tuition categories, thereby enhancing transparency and protecting parents from financial exploitation.
In a related development, Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil informed the assembly that allegations of illegal moneylenders usurping farmers’ lands will be probed at the district collector level. Of the 10,000 complaints received in this matter, 8,100 were found to be baseless, Patil said.
The issue was raised by MLA Sanjay Derkar, with further inputs from legislators Sameer Kunawar, Nana Patole, and Amit Deshmukh.
