Mumbai : In a shocking case from Kalyan near Mumbai, an eight-month-old baby who was kidnapped from the railway station was rescued within six hours by the police. The accused have been identified as the child’s own relatives — nephew Akshay Khare and his aunt Savita Khare.
According to officials, the baby’s parents, both daily wage labourers, were asleep on the foot-over bridge of Kalyan station along with their three children when the incident occurred around 4 a.m. The accused allegedly took advantage of the situation and abducted the infant.
When the parents woke up around 6:30 a.m. and found their baby missing, they immediately approached the Government Railway Police (GRP). A swift investigation followed, and with the help of CCTV footage and local intelligence, police traced the kidnappers to the Syndicate area.
The baby was safely rescued and handed over to the parents. Preliminary investigation indicates that the accused may have planned to sell the child, though the motive is still under probe.
Police officials praised the rapid response of the Kalyan GRP and Mahatma Phule Police Station, whose coordinated effort helped recover the child in record time. The arrested duo now face charges under sections related to kidnapping and child trafficking.
