A tragic incident
unfolded on Tuesday afternoon in Kalyan as the roof of a residential building collapsed due to relentless rainfall, claiming the lives of six individuals and injuring five others. The accident occurred amidst the ongoing monsoon downpour that has battered several parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The Saptashrungi Building, located in Mangalaragho Nagar area in Kalyan East, crumbled without warning, trapping several occupants under the debris.
Local authorities, along with NDRF teams and emergency responders, swiftly reached the site to initiate rescue operations. Despite the challenging weather conditions, officials worked tirelessly to recover those trapped and secure the premises.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared an update via social media, stating that the rescue efforts have now concluded. He confirmed that the Municipal Commissioner was personally present at the site. The five injured individuals are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
The Chief Minister also announced financial compensation of ₹5 lakh each for the families of the deceased and emphasized that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse. “The state government stands firmly with the affected families and will provide all necessary support,” he affirmed.
