Mumbai:-
A tragic accident at Mumbai Central station claimed the life of a 27-year-old man on Thursday morning after he attempted to de-board a local train from the wrong side and got fatally entangled in an iron fence.
According to officials from the Railway Police, the incident occurred around 9:45 AM. The man, whose identity has not been officially released, tried to exit the train from the non-platform side — a restricted area bordered by iron fencing meant to prevent such dangerous actions.
Eyewitnesses recounted that as he jumped down, his neck became lodged in the metal bars. He was left hanging and severely injured, with bleeding wounds visible when help arrived. Railway staff and fellow passengers rushed to assist and transported him to Nair Hospital. Sadly, he was declared dead on arrival.
A post-mortem examination is underway to determine the precise cause of death. While the investigation continues, officials have renewed their warnings about the dangers of unsafe travel behaviour.
Railway authorities have long urged commuters to avoid shortcuts, stressing the importance of using designated platforms and foot overbridges for boarding and deboarding. This incident, heartbreaking in its suddenness and preventability, serves as a painful reminder that one misstep can be irreversible.
In a city where millions depend on the local rail network every day, the need for safety awareness cannot be overstated. This young man’s life was lost not to a criminal act or system failure — but to a choice made in haste, with fatal consequences.
