Mumbai:-Maharashtra’s public transport infrastructure has come under scrutiny after a recent cleanliness survey revealed that 149 State Transport (ST) bus stands failed to meet basic hygiene standards. Shockingly, only 201 bus stands across the state managed to score above 70% in the assessment.
The survey, conducted as part of the state government’s cleanliness initiative, found widespread issues such as unclean toilets, overflowing garbage, poor drainage, and lack of maintenance at many bus stands. These findings have raised serious concerns about public health and passenger comfort.
In response, the transport department has relaunched the “Hinduhrudyasamarat Balasaheb Thackeray Swachh Sundar Bus Stand” campaign, encouraging participation from ST employees, schools, and local citizens. The government has also announced incentives, including cash prizes totaling ₹3 crore, with ₹1 crore set aside for the cleanest bus stand in the state.
Officials stated that regular inspections, better facilities, and public cooperation are key to improving the situation. The state aims to significantly upgrade cleanliness levels across all ST bus stands in the coming months.
