Mumbai, June 24 — In a remarkable display of swift policing and inter-state coordination, the MHB Colony Police have solved a major gold theft case within 72 hours, recovering 11 kilograms of stolen gold worth ₹11 crore and arresting three accused.
The case was first reported by a prominent gold merchant in Mumbai’s western suburbs, who alerted authorities after discovering a significant quantity of jewellery missing. Given the scale and value of the theft, a special investigation team was immediately constituted by senior officers to track the culprits.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspects had already fled the city, prompting the team to trace their movements using technical surveillance, call records, and vehicle tracking systems. The trail led investigators to a forested area in Gujarat. With support from Gujarat Police, a joint operation was launched to nab the suspects.
The accused were eventually located and arrested in a remote region near the Gujarat border, where they had taken shelter. Upon interrogation, they confessed to the crime and led police to the hidden stash of gold jewellery. Officers recovered the entire 11 kg of gold from the forest along with the four-wheeler used in their escape.
The breakthrough has been widely applauded by law enforcement officials for its speed and coordination. The stolen gold has been verified and secured, and formal legal procedures are underway to return it to the rightful owner.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if others were involved and whether the accused have links to additional unsolved thefts. The police are also probing their backgrounds for previous criminal records.
